An Engaging and Enriching Environment

As a concerned parent, grandparent, or guardian, it is understandable to ask, “Is camp a safe place to send my child?” At Old Faithful Christian Ranch, we want you to know that we take that concern very seriously. We care deeply about the physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being of all of our campers and staff. Let us share with you how we make OFCR a great place to bring your child for a week of camp.

Staffing:

OFCR brings on almost 100 staff members throughout July to minister to the spiritual, physical, and emotional needs of your child. We pray for months in preparation for camp, and we have seen God bring just the right staff every year for almost three decades. We believe the Lord will guide and direct who He wants to be at camp. Staff applicants complete an application that requires honest, detailed responses regarding their testimony, lifestyle, and convictions. Next, each applicant supplies three personal references, including one from their pastor, with information regarding the applicant’s skills, integrity, character, and personal walk with Jesus. A full, certified criminal background check is conducted on every applicant before they are hired and given the responsibility to supervise your child. Through this process, we know that we are getting staff members who are honorable, have a heart to serve the Lord, and who will love the campers. Most of the 80-100 staff members who come serve have been coming on staff for years or they have grown up attending OFCR as campers. We take the hiring of staff seriously and prayerfully.

Commitment against bullying:

Please know that because we desire that each camper have an enjoyable experience at camp, bullying is not tolerated. Every camper is asked to read and sign an agreement prior to arrival that makes clear the behavior expected from each camper.

Risk:

While we take precautions, work strenuously through every aspect of the program, and regularly inspect the facilities, there is still an aspect of risk at camp. We will play active games with the campers, where there is running and engaging with other campers. We will take them on adventures, such as tubing the lazy Henry’s Fork River or hiking in the lovely Island Park area. And we will encourage your child to try new things, make new friends, and step out of their comfort zone a bit. All of these things have an element of risk, which has been calculated and worked through in advance. So, is camp safe? To the best of our ability, yes, camp is safe. Yet, accidents do still happen, and we have plans in place to address such incidents as they occur. So, perhaps a better question is, is camp worth it? And the resounding answer is YES! Since the camp’s founding in 1997, we have seen thousands of camper’s lives impacted for Jesus, countless have committed their lives to Christ while at camp or been strengthened in their walk with Him, and lifelong friendships have been forged. Campers leave camp enriched by their time in God’s Word, in His creation, and with others.

We hope that you see Old Faithful Christian Ranch as a great environment where campers can experience deeper aspects of God, His Word, and His creation while building lasting relationships. We look forward to meeting your child this summer. Please call with any questions that you may have.
